Good afternoon. Tooth pain can be caused by various factors. The most common issues are cold sensitivity, which varies from person to person, and cavities or dental decay in teeth that progress to a point where the tooth starts to feel it. Another very common reason is tooth fractures, as teeth are alive and will respond to fractures which can cause temperature sensitivity, aching, and a whole spectrum of responses.
If I'm Experiencing Tooth Pain, How Can I Calm It Down?
For sensitivity, I recommend Sensodyne toothpaste. If the pain is more extreme, consider using ORA gel on the outside of the tooth. However, if the pain persists after a day or so, a consultation and examination would be required to determine the issue.
What Would Be The Most Common Reason For A Dull Toothache?
The most common reason for a dull toothache would be the pulp of the tooth becoming uncomfortable, whether it’s due to a cavity that’s progressed to the point where the pulp starts to feel it, or a fracture that’s progressing through the tooth causing the pulp to react.
Because a toothache involves a living tooth, there’s no quick way to stop it. If a person is comfortable taking acetaminophen or Advil, you can alternate these on a three-hour basis to help alleviate the pain. A bag of ice wrapped in a towel on the affected side of your face can also help.
Is It Normal To Have Tooth Pain?
No, having tooth pain is not normal. The response to it varies from person to person. If you’re experiencing pain, it’s important to diagnose and fix the problem to alleviate the pain.
